22nd Annual Ring in Praise Seminar

This event on Saturday 5th June 2010 provides hands-on opportunities to develop skills, ring through a variety of music, and work under the coaching of experienced ringers and directors in a friendly and welcoming environment. So whether you are looking for new ideas, wishing to be inspired, seeking the stimulus of others, or just want to enjoy the unique experience that is the Ring in Praise Seminar, then sign up now for this event. Individuals or whole groups are equally welcome. Everything you need for the day is provided for you.
Dunblane Cathedral in central Scotland is the venue for this annual event http://www.dunblanecathedral.org.uk.
Participants will be able to take part in four sessions during the seminar (each lasting 1 hour). Sessions marked * are suited to those who have little or no ringing experience. Other sessions require participants to be reasonably fluent music readers. There is also the option to ring all day on pieces for performance at the end of the event. This will take the place of all other options for participants choosing this option – participants choosing this option must be able to ring with confidence and be fluent music readers.
1. Ringing for the First Time* - Learn the basic ringing techniques – suited to those with little or no ringing experience or limited music reading skills.
2. Ring the Church Season - Advent - Ring through a range of Advent music. Participants must be able to sight-read music.
3. Technique Tune-up – be introduced to, or have a refresher of, many handbell techniques and their notation in handbell music.
4. Rhythms Made Fun* - very practical hands-on session developing skill in ringing a variety of rhythms – suited to those with little or no ringing experience or limited music reading skills.
5. Praise Band and Bells - experience adding handbells to the mix of Praise Band instruments. Participants must be reasonably fluent music readers.
6. Bells for Baptism - ring through a range of music suitable for a baptismal service. Participants must be able to sight-read music.
7. Music Terms Made Clear* - a hands-on session explaining and putting into practice many music terms and symbols. Suited to those with little or no ringing experience or limited music reading skills.
8. Ring the Church Season - Easter - Ring through music suitable for a worship
service at Easter time. Participants must be able to sight-read music.
9. Can’t ring enough bells? - for the experienced ringer and fluent music reader
who wants to ring several handbells using solo techniques in an ensemble.
10. Service Starters – Ring through music suitable for prelude before the start of a worship service. Participants must be able to sight-read music.
11. Change-Ringing* – a practical session change-ringing using handbells. Suited to those with little or no ringing experience or limited music reading skills.
12. Iona Community Music and Bells – incorporate handbells with music from the Iona Community - participants must be reasonably fluent music readers.
