Celtic Carillon
Celtic Carillon, Scotland's national handbell ensemble, comprises ringers from various groups from around Scotland, all members of the Scottish Regional Association of the Handbell Ringers of Great Britain.
Celtic Carillon was first formed in January 2007 specifically with a view to performing as the Scottish representative team at the concert to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Handbell Ringers of Great Britain, which was held at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield in April 2007. The group first performed in Paisley in March 2007 and then later in the summer at concerts in Dunblane Cathedral and Dunfermline Abbey alongside ringers from the USA and the UK taking part in the European Handbell Festival.
In 2008 the group performed at the Scottish Regional Ringer Rally in Haddington, at the National Rally of the Handbell Ringers of Great Britain at the University of Chester, and in a concert in Dunblane Cathedral with US group Bells in Motion. The team generally rehearses on several Saturdays in the spring of each year. Malcolm C Wilson directed the group for the first two years. In 2009 the group was directed by Lysbeth C Wilson and Claire Griffiths, performing at the Scottish Regional Ringer Rally in Aboyne, and with US touring group under the direction of Debbie Rice in St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh. In 2013 the group, under the direction of Malcolm Wilson, performed in the 2300-seater Caird Hall in Dundee for the Church of Scotland Guild annual event.
When ringers from several Scottish groups join together to represent the Scottish Regional Association of HRGB at National or international events they also ring under the group name Celtic Carillon, which they have done at the International Handbell Symposium in Florida in 2008 and the national rally in Cirencester, and the International Symposium in Liverpool in 2012.
